Many of my paintings start with actual locations but often end up 'somewhere else'.

I'm particularly interested in the interplay of light and dark and how this relates to emotional experience and memory. Places that remain in our hearts and minds aren't there because we have memorised the precise topography of that scene. It's the emotional experience that stays with us.

As my work evolves I'm finding that representational elements are becoming increasingly abstract. Gesture, texture and dark/light relationships are replacing the trees and water.
